[Warning: American Horror Story: 1984 premiere spoilers, ahead.]
AHS: 1984 just premiered last night, but someone already came up with a theory that has to be true. Here’s what you need to know before we get into it. In 1970, a vicious slasher murdered an entire cabin of Camp Redwood campers and cut off their ears for his trophy necklace. There was only one survivor, a very religious lady who wants to reopen the camp 14 years later. Sound like a good idea? Of course not!
Now, in 1984, five twenty-somethings who are really into aerobics decide to get out of LA for the summer to be camp counselors, without knowing about Redwood’s grisly past. There’s Brooke (Emma Roberts), wide-eyed and new in town, who would definitely survive an actual ’80s slasher film to the end. She needs to get away after being attacked by the kind of sexy serial killer, the Night Stalker (Zach Villa). There’s also Montana (Billie Lord), Chet (Gus Kenworthy), and Ray (Deron Horton), who fit the rest of the popular horror film tropes like the “slut,” the dumb jock, and the dorkish friend with the drugs. Back in the day, these are the guys who wouldn’t make it past the first act.
Then, there’s Xavior (Cody Fern). He’s got the jock thing going, too, but he’s also an actor and a bit of the wild card. Oh, and he’s super hot if you’re into bleached tips and a single-cross earring:
If you’ve been paying attention, you’ll notice that we’ve already got two separate serial killers to worry about: Mr. Jingles (John Carroll Lynch), who escaped from an insane asylum when he learns the camp he once terrorized is opening again, and the Night Stalker, who I’m way too attracted to. Take a look:
But what if there’s also a third? Twitter user, @MSpataro210 picked up on some very interesting details about our boy Xavior.
Hot take: In #AHS1984 the real mastermind/killer will be Cody Fern’s ‘Xavier’ because he was offered the role of a serial killer for a TV special and, as he told us in this first episode – he trained at Stella Adler. He’s method. This is preparing him for his role, obvi 😏
He writes, “The real mastermind/killer will be Cody Fern’s ‘Xavier’ because he was offered the role of a serial killer for a TV special and, as he told us in this first episode, he trained at Stella Adler. He’s method. This is preparing him for his role, obvi.”
They’re not wrong. He did make a point to let them all know he’s a serious method actor, but that’s not the only damning evidence against him. He barely flinches after hitting the hitchhiker with his van, is the one who invited the entire crew to Redwood, and got a pretty ominous call from the Night Stalker, which he never shared with the group. Here’s how that voicemail went: “You can’t just take your dick and walk away. There’s nowhere to run, nowhere to hide. I know exactly where you’re going.”
Did he sick the Night Stalker on Brooke? It might be too early to say, but as Cosmo’s very own editor Hannah Chambers puts it, “If Cody Fern doesn’t kill somebody, I won’t believe this season of American Horror Story. It’ll probably be Gus Kenworthy.” Agreed.
