The One Show presenters Zoe Ball and Jermaine Jenas chatted to 2020 Queen of the Castle Giovanna about McFly star Tom, who this weekend secured a place in next week’s Strictly Come Dancing after impressing judges and audiences watching from home with his latest performance. Although he bagged two 10s on Saturday night, the singer is going to be feeling “low” today according to Giovanna as he prepares for another week of dancing.
As Giovanna appeared on the BBC chat show from the green room, Zoe commented: “First of all Giovanna, we have to say, Tom danced the Pasodoble on Saturday night – he was brilliant.
“There were knee slides, his cape action was amazing.”
She continued: “Second on the leaderboard, and you were there, cheering him on.
“How is he feeling today, Giovanna?”
The 36-year-old vlogger and presenter surprised audiences as she revealed he would likely be struggling.
She replied: “Well, Mondays are always really interesting, because you’ve gone through the Saturday, you know your dance inside out.
“Then [on] Monday, he can forget that. It’s a whole new dance.”
The presenter went on: “So, I imagine when I get home tonight he’s going to be really depleted and quite low.
“But on Saturday – what a high, it’s just amazing.”
“He is amazing,” Zoe, 50, replied. “What a team they are.”
Jermaine, 38, agreed: “He’s flying. He’s absolutely flying, old twinkle toes.”
Alongside dance partner Amy Dowden, Tom, 36, received positive feedback from the judges during the weekend.
The colourful performance saw Tom sporting a fitting outfit as he admitted he “loved” learning the dance.
The judges were on their feet following the routine, with Craig Revel Horwood commenting: “My goodness, you did such a fantastic job.
“The Spanish line is all in there, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Paso from a male celebrity actually that convincing.”
The famously critical judge concluded: “It was incredible.”
“Such a strong performance,” Motsi Mabuse echoed.
“The balletic posture you had, and what I love is you took your time to create volume and be proud and you were really leading, partnering and strong character, I loved it.”
The couple found out during the results show they’d made it to next week and celebrated, looking ecstatic.
The One Show airs weekdays at 7pm on BBC One, while Strictly Come Dancing continues on Saturday at 6.45pm on BBC One.
