Tyler Grey has portrayed SEAL Team’s Special Warfare Operator First Class of Bravo Team Trent Sawyer from the very beginning. He will be back for the upcoming series on CBS which will be airing in October. While Grey is now an actor, this wasn’t always the case as he does have a background that makes him perfect for the military drama.
What happened to Tyler Grey’s arm?
Prior to working as an actor, Grey was in the US Army as a 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment-Delta Operator.
He joined the service in 1998 and spent the majority of his career as a sniper.
Grey was a sniper-qualified Army Ranger, serving in the 75th Ranger Regiment, 2nd Battalion.
But everything changed in 2005 when an incident meant he had to leave the army for good.

Grey was forced to retire from the service when he was medically discharged 16 years ago.
He sustained serious injuries during a mission in Iraq thanks to an improvised explosive device.
This is why Grey’s right arm is disfigured in SEAL Team and can be seen whenever Trent wears a short-sleeve shirt.
He has previously shared pictures of himself after the incident with his fans.

In October last year, Grey posted a picture of himself in the hospital getting treatment for his arm.
The photograph shows Grey smiling at the camera with a thumbs up but he says he wasn’t always happy looking back at this.
Grey wrote: “Came across this old picture, ah good times. I remember this picture bothering me maybe 7-8 years ago.
“I’m giving the ‘thumbs up’ like the hard part was over when it hadn’t even begun.
“Looking back later in hindsight it was the beginning of a long period of change and growth for myself and I wouldn’t give up that experience for the world.
“So now, the thumbs up doesn’t bother me at all, no different than giving a thumbs up at the bottom of a mountain you’re about to climb.”

While he was no longer able to be in the army, Grey used his knowledge as a Navy SEAL elsewhere.
Grey does star in SEAL Team but he has another important role in the drama.
He works as one of its military advisors, as well as producers in recent years.
Grey even made his directorial debut back in season three for episode 10, Unbecoming an Officer.
At the time, Grey took to Instagram to say it had “been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember” to direct.
SEAL Team will be returning in just a matter of weeks to CBS.
But there is going to be a major change as the entire series won’t be available to watch on the channel.
Instead, the first four episodes will air on CBS before making the switch to its streaming service Paramount+ for the rest of the season.
SEAL Team season 5 will premiere on Sunday, October 10, on CBS.
