What happened to Mick Carter in his childhood and who is Katy in EastEnders?

Mick Carter (Danny Dyer) in EastEnders is currently facing a traumatic time after coming face to face with his abuser Katy Lewis (Simone Lahbib), someone he hasn’t seen in over 20 years.

As Katy returns in tonight’s episode and manipulates Mick and his relationship with wife Linda (Kellie Bright), here’s a recap on what happened to Mick in his childhood, and who Katy is.

Who is Katy?

Katy Lewis the mother of Frankie (Rose Ayling-Ellis), and abused Mick when she used to work in his and Tina’s (Luisa Bradshaw-White) care home, when Mick was around 12 years old.

What happened in Mick’s childhood?

Mick was brought up by Stan and Sylvie, and was put into care when he was a child, unaware that Shirley (Linda Henry) was his real mother.

Struggling in care and with his continuous feeling that he had been abandoned, Katy began to give Mick extra attention, and started abusing and isolating him from the other children.

What has Katy said to Mick recently?

After discovering Frankie is Katy’s daughter, Mick began to push Shirley away from him, angry that she abandoned him and put him into care, knowing that if that never happened, Katy would never have abused Mick.

Thinking it would help, Shirley called Katy and she arrived in the Square – much to Mick’s horror. Since then, Katy has been manipulating Mick, getting into his head and convincing him that Frankie isn’t his daughter, and she never abused him, shutting Mick down and leaving him to silently struggle with his feelings.

Katy has also managed to trick Mick into thinking that during this difficult time, she is the only one who understands his problems, and in tonight’s episode, she goes as far as telling Mick his marriage to Linda isn’t worth saving.

What’s happened to Mick and Linda?

Ever since Mick and Linda moved out of the Queen Vic they haven’t been the same. Mick is distant with Linda and as she is feeling unloved, Linda has been growing closer to Max Branning (Jake Wood), and the two of them have kissed a couple of times.

As much as Linda tries to save her marriage, she often ends up in Max’s company.

Tina watches the two of them share a moment in tonight’s episode and she immediately tells Mick, who’s response catches her off guard until she realises he already knew about the affair.

As Katy continues isolating Mick from everyone, his battle with his overwhelming emotions will continue for a while, pushing his friends and family even further away in the process.
