Renegades: Born in the USA is the latest Spotify podcast from former President of the United States, Barack Obama. Teaming up with singer/songwriter Bruce Springsteen, the pair discuss a wide variety of topical and personal matters. Above all, the two bond over their shared love for the USA.

What is Barack Obama and Bruce Springsteen’s podcast about?

Barack Obama and Bruce Springsteen have been close friends for years, with Springsteen often campaigning with Obama during his presidential runs.

In fact, back in 2016, Obama awarded Springsteen the Medal of Freedom, symbolising the star’s impact on the USA and globally.

Supporters have always been keen to know more about the pair and their friendship, and this podcast is the perfect opportunity to do so.

It will be an open discussion between the two, while not shying away from some personal subject matters.

The official synopsis reads: “Renegades: Born in the USA is a series of conversations between President Barack Obama and Bruce Springsteen about their lives, music, and enduring love of America—despite all its challenges.”

Of course, music will be one of the main topics of conversations, as it is their shared love of the art that originally brought them together.

Yet, the podcast itself has been expanded upon in a recently released book of the same name.

Published in October 2021, the book expands upon many of the topics discussed in the podcast and is the ultimate continuation for listeners looking for more.

The podcast itself is split into eight episodes, each ranging from 40 minutes up to an hour.

Each episode focuses on a different topic, all with a shared focus on their love for the USA.

For fans looking to dive into the podcast, it is exclusive to Spotify, the online music and podcast app service.

Spotify Premium costs £9.99 ($9.99) per month and also offers a two-month free trial to new subscribers.

In their new book, Springsteen and Obama introduce readers and listeners to the package, teasing the topics to come.

Springsteen says: “There were serious conversations about the fate of the country, the fortune of its citizens, and the destructive, ugly, corrupt forces at play that would like to take it all down.

“This is a time of vigilance when who we are is being seriously tested.

“Hard conversations about who we are and who we want to become can perhaps serve as a small guiding map for some of our fellow citizens.

“This is a time for serious consideration of who we want to be and what kind of country we will leave our children. Will we let slip through our hands the best of us or will we turn united to face the fire?”

Obama adds: “The conversations Bruce and I had in 2020 feel as urgent today as they did back then.

“They represent our ongoing effort to figure out how it is that we got here, and how we can tell a more unifying story that starts to close the gap between America’s ideals and its reality.”

The book is currently available to buy for £17.50 ($30.00) on Amazon and works as a visual addition to the podcast.
