What is Dwayne Johnson’s net worth? – The Sun

DWAYNE 'The Rock' Johnson gained celebrity status as a WWE wrestler in the 1990s  before transitioning into an acting career.

Johnson will appear as the lead character in the new film Black Adam, which is part of the DC comic universe.

Who is Dwayne Johnson?

Dwayne Johnson, 50, was born in Hayward, California to professional wrestler Rocky Johnson. His father's wrestling career required frequent moves, meaning Johnson didn't stay in one place for longer than a few years and by the time he was in high school, he had lived in 13 states.

Johnson attended the University of Miami where he played the defensive lineman position for the school's football team but upon graduating, he decided to follow his father's career in pro wrestling.

"I have had a Forrest Gump-ian childhood growing up," Johnson said on The Today Show in May 2021. "Wrestling in the '80s and in the '70s was way different than it is today. A lot of the times, including my father, the wrestlers would live paycheck to paycheck."

Despite his eagerness to pursue the same career as his father, Johnson said he didn't receive much support at first.

"We had the biggest fight between a father and a son over this. He said, ‘Look around. Look what I have after all these years and I want more for you,’” he said on The Today Show in February 2021.

“And I said, ‘I know, but, and I appreciate that, but I feel like I have something to offer.’ And we fought and fought and fought."

But his mom was the driving force in getting Johnson's father on board. “Finally, after my mom said, ‘Let me talk to you for a second.’ Let me talk to you, husband. Let me talk to you about how this whole thing is gonna go down.’ And then he said okay I'll train you."

When he finally entered the ring, it was then that Johnson earned the title of The Rock.

When did Dwayne Johnson break into acting?

His career trajectory took another abrupt turn in 2001 when Johnson starred as The Scorpion King, Mathayus, in the film The Mummy Returns which garnered $435million at the box office.

While filming the movie, Johnson told Entertainment Weekly at the time, "I always knew I wanted to do film. And not only did I want to do film, I wanted to make an impact. And not only did I want to make an impact, but I wanted to make a long-term impact.”

He added, “It’s very challenging. It’s different from the industry I’m coming from. On wrestling shows, we don’t have to deal with things like the loss of a family member. But in movies, you have to learn to express a whole array of emotions. That’s the hardest part of it for me.”

Since his first film, Johnson has gone on to star in the Fast and Furious franchise, the Disney films The Game Plan and Moana, and the remake of the 1995 classic, Jumanji.

What is Dwayne Johnson's net worth?

As of 2022, Johnson's net worth has increased substantially since he began his acting career in 2001. At the time, he had a net worth of $2million. Now 21 years later, his net worth has increased to $350million.

Dwayne's initial wealth came from competing in wrestling tournaments, with him earning $1million in 1999, and now comes from his acting career, TV appearances, merchandise, and his newly founded tequila company.

He launched his tequila brand, Teremana tequila, in 2020 and oversaw the development of the product while it was made in Mexico.

"It took 113 distillations to get to this point," he said in his May 2021 interview on The Today Show. "Everything is handcrafted, handmade. Copper pot stills, brick ovens."

The topic of running for president was discussed during the interview and Johnson said it wasn't out of the realm of possibility. "If the time comes where there is a good amount of people who want to see that happen, then I'm going to consider it," he said.
