Tiger King season two is on Netflix now and with Joe Exotic still in prison, the attention has turned to other key players. The new episodes delve deeper into the mystery behind Carole Baskin’s husband, Don Lewis, who went missing in 1997. The first episode introduces Ripper Jack, a YouTuber and internet sleuth who developed an interest in the case.
Who is Ripper Jack in Tiger King?
The season instalment of Tiger King picks up after Joe Exotic’s convictions, and he is still serving his 22-year prison sentence.
The eccentric animal keeper was found guilty of two counts of hiring someone to murder Carole Baskin in Florida.
He was also convicted of eight counts of falsifying wildlife records and nine counts of violating the Endangered Species Act.
Joe had developed an obsession with Carole Baskin following the disappearance of her husband, Don Lewis.
The first season addressed how Joe was of the belief Carole killed her husband.
The case of his disappearance in August 1997 has never been solved and no one has been held accountable.
In season two, Joe is heard speaking from prison, saying he had been looking for someone to dig into Don’s whereabouts.
Jack, who goes by the name of Ripper, describes himself as an “armchair detective”.
He set up a Facebook group called Don Lewis Cold Case Files, inviting members of the public to share their insight.
He said: “I have no background in law. I told people I got my law degree from Google.
“I remember I sent a message to this friend – maybe we should start a Facebook group for Don Lewis?”
Ever since he has been attempting to piece together a picture of what really happened to Carole’s husband.
He admitted law enforcement were not fans of his but added: “This is a job that should have been done 23 years ago.”
He is on YouTube under Ripper Jack Media and has more than 14,000 subscribers.
On November 15, 2021 he shared a live stream with fans updating them on the latest Tiger King season two trailer.
He explained it featured things “he had not heard before” and shared his reactions with his followers.
The second and third episodes focus on the disappearance of Don Lewis, and his trips to Costa Rica.
Corporal Garcia from Hillborough County Police had said: “We routinely meet with the [Don’s] daughters.
“Ripper Jack had a lot of conspiracy theories without realising how committed the sheriff was to solving this case.
“The internet investigators out there, they think they know a lot.”
In episode two, Ripper Jack said of the local police: “If you are going to investigate the case, investigate the case.
“Don’t go around saying you are when you are not.”
Throughout the series, Ripper Jack is seen joining various other investigators as they try and find out the truth behind Don’s disappearance.
