Will Ferrell is reviving his Anchorman character Ron Burgundy… for a podcast.
The fictional – but nonetheless ubiquitous – news broadcaster announced the news via the Burgundy Podcast Twitter page on Monday evening (December 3).
True to form, Ron became embroiled in an a Twitter spat with CNN journalist Don Lemon shortly after his very first tweet, with the podcast being officially announced further down the thread.
“The media landscape is changing so fast and I DO NOT CARE FOR IT,” he said. “Not how I wanted to do this, but I am formally announcing I am doing a podcast!”
The Burgundy Podcast will be co-produced by Funny or Die and iHeartRadio and will launch on the iHeartRadio Podcast Network in early 2019.
It has already been given a two-season 12-episode order — and we’re expecting at least a few guest appearances from his news team, and many a jazz flute instrumental.
Hopefully, we’ll also get an update on whether Ron is still married to Veronica Corningstone (Christina Applegate) after the pair’s brief separation in Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, and see what their son is up to now.
Earlier this year, Anchorman director Adam McKay talked about the possibility of making another sequel once Ferrell “had aged up” so he could set the movie in the ’90s.
So, if the podcast is going to focus on modern day matters, can we expect to hear Ron Burgundy voiced as an old man?
We don’t know, but we do expect many shenanigans once this hits air next year.
