‘I did buy some porridge’: Adam Boulton is caught on live microphone discussing his BREAKFAST before realising and quickly returning to Brexit

  • The Sky News reporter told a colleague outside Parliament about his breakfast
  • He was waiting for the channel to return from a break in its coverage of Brexit
  • Theresa May gave an early-morning statement amid a bid to oust her as leader

Sky News reporter Adam Boulton was caught discussing his breakfast on a live broadcast in Westminster this morning.

The presenter told a colleague he had ‘bought some porridge’ as the channel returned from a break in its coverage of the plot to remove Theresa May.

Boulton then realised he was on air and hastily changed the subject back to Brexit, telling viewers they were looking at the Prime Minister.

Theresa May gave an early-morning statement on Wednesday after Tory rebels reached the 48 letters required to force a confidence vote in her leadership.

In the clip Boulton and a colleague are heard discussing breakfast as Sky News cameras watched the door of Number 10 this morning.

The 59-year-old is offered some food but declines, saying: ‘I’m fine for now, thanks, I did buy some porridge this morning.’

He begins another sentence but appears to realise he is on air, over recorded footage of the PM emerging from the famous black door to deliver her statement.

Recovering quickly, Boulton tells viewers ‘welcome back’ before saying: ‘This is the Prime Minister we’re seeing there’.

As he returns to Brexit the camera switches to show Boulton, smiling slightly, speaking outside the Palace of Westminster.

It is not the first time Boulton’s comments have accidentally been heard on air during the weeks of Brexit turmoil.

Adam Boulton, pictured outside the Palace of Westminster this morning, shared more than he intended to with viewers when he revealed he had ‘bought some porridge’

Last month he was heard swearing in a live broadcast as he and other reporters waited for Mrs May to deliver a statement on the withdrawal agreement.

As an ITV live stream kept a constant watch on the door, Boulton made his anger heard when the PM’s statement was pushed back again.

He was heard on the microphone saying: ‘One minute we’re f***ing lining up, and then the next minute…’

In 2010 Boulton clashed with former Blair adviser Alastair Campbell in a heated exchange during live coverage of that year’s general election.

Sky and other camera crews were waiting in Downing Street this morning for Theresa May to deliver a statement amid a dramatic leadership challenge in the Conservative party
