  • Max Barnett, from Grimsby claimed the man performed a smash-and-grab on car
  • The gym-goer tracked the alleged thief’s spending spree using online banking
  • But he dismissed suggestions of violence and put injuries down to bike accident

A bodybuilder who caught a supposed repeat thief on a spending spree with his stolen bank card has shared a photo of the thug sprawled on the pavement with blood streaming down his face – as he warned ‘don’t ever tempt fate twice’.

Max Barnett, from Grimsby, Lincolnshire, claimed the man performed a smash-and-grab on his car two weeks ago before returning yesterday to steal his credit cards and going on to rack up £300 worth of purchases.

Yet the keen gym-goer was able to trace the alleged criminal’s whereabouts using online banking and set out to confront the man.

But – after people praised him online for taking the law into his own hands – Mr Barnett insisted that the injured man had suffered a ‘harsh bike crash’.

Max Barnett, from Grimsby, Lincolnshire, claimed the man performed a smash-and-grab on his car and tracked him down. But he insists that the thug fell of his bike and he did not use violence

He tweeted images of the man clasping his hands over his head as blood spills down his nose and splatters on to the pavement.

It was accompanied by a photo of his shattered car window, purportedly where the thief had broken in.

And he wrote: ‘When I tweeted two weeks ago that somebody robbed my car, well today he came back and robbed me again.

‘This time spending £300 on contactless cards. Leaving an online trail but,

‘I caught him as he went onto his final spend. Don’t ever tempt fate twice guys, have a good day.’

He also posted pictures of syringes and said: ‘Here’s the drug needles I found in his pockets with my belongings.’

But the bodybuilder reassured people that he found the alleged thief after a nasty bike accident, rather than him beating the man up.

Mr Barnett said: ‘For everyone who keeps asking me, he’s obviously bleeding because he fell off his bike. No violence was used in the redemption of my cards.’
