DESPERATE Chuka Umunna launched a Change UK fightback today by calling for Brexit to be “revoked” altogether.
The ex-Labour MP said there was no time for a second referendum – and the Article 50 legislation governing EU talks should just be scrapped.
He told the BBC: “I’ve come to the view that we are now at a point where we are going to need to revoke Article 50.”
Rival Lib Dems immediately claimed the move was down to Change UK’s disastrous showing in the polls since its formal launch in April.
The Lib Dems are polling on 17 per cent for this week’s European Elections – with Change UK on 4 – to become the clear Remain party.
Change UK MEP candidate Rachel Johnson joked this weekend that she appeared to have joined a “sinking ship”.
But Mr Umunna put the policy shift down to the increasing likelihood of a No Deal Brexit – and the lack of time to carry out a new referendum before the EU’s negotiating deadline of October 31.
He insisted: “Faced with no deal and revocation you have got to revoke.”
Ex-Tory MP Anna Soubry today claimed the fledging party had done “remarkably well” given it had only been going for a number of weeks.
