Panda took the Chinese social media by storm when a clip of the cat resting on a car bonnet emerged in July on Chinese TikTok-like Douyin.

The video is believed to have been filmed by a local resident in south-western Chinese city Chengdu.

The trending clip has amassed over two million views since being uploaded by ‘Cat from the Hostel’, an account dedicated to the cat with unique facial patterns.

Many Chinese social media users have been entertained by Panda’s ‘sad expression’ while others found the pet ‘adorable because how ugly it looks’.

One commenter wrote: ‘Hahaha this cat is so ugly and cute at the same time! So hilarious.’

Another one replied: ‘Aww the cat looks so sad as if it was being scolded by its owner haha.’

A third netizen said: ‘I love its little moustache. Reminds me of Charlie Chaplin!’

In June, another ‘permanently sad’ moggie also became a trending topic on Chinese social media for having unique facial markings like Panda.

Footage of the stray cat was shared online by a woman who spotted the animal on the street in Shanghai.
