Huge inferno tears through Queens strip mall, injuring 12 people

A massive blaze ravaged six Queens businesses and injured 12 people early Thursday, officials said.

The five-alarm fire broke out around 2:15 a.m. inside the New York Style Eats diner on Queens Boulevard near 42nd Street in Sunnyside, according to the FDNY.

Video posted to Twitter by the FDNY shows several ladders working to extinguish the inferno that lit up the pitch-black sky.

The inferno quickly swept to five adjoining businesses, which suffered property damage, authorities said.

Twelve people — seven firefighters and five civilians — suffered minor injuries in the blaze, fire officials said.

More than 200 FDNY personnel responded to the fire, which was finally extinguished just before 8 a.m.

The cause was not immediately known.
