Husband's grief after wife, 31, died of brain cancer after treatment shelved due to Covid

A DEVASTATED husband told yesterday how his 31-year-old wife died of brain cancer after her treatment was shelved because of Covid.

Andrew Jenkinson, 32, first spoke out while Emma was still battling for life last month, launching a petition which now has 14,000 signatures.

But the couple — with four children aged 11, nine, four and two — were told the three-month pause to chemotherapy over lockdown let the disease take hold.

Andrew, of Bury, Greater Manchester, wrote on social media: “It’s with a heavy heart, sadness and regret that I have to announce that my beautiful wife sadly passed away.

“Emma was a fantastic, loving, caring mother, daughter, sister, grand- daughter and wife and she loved the bones off everyone close to her.

'THE SYSTEM FAILED HER'

“We will all thoroughly miss Emma and there will be a huge hole in all our lives.

"All Emma wanted was for her children to be happy and loved. She more than did that for them.”

When he launched his petition for continued treatment for cancer patients, he said: “The system has failed Emma and a lot of people like her.

"For me, the Government have tied the hands of the NHS.

“They’ve been concentrating far too much on Covid and forgetting about the other people.”
