New images show former President George H.W. Bush being laid to rest next to his wife Barbara and daughter Robin in a private ceremony at Texas A&M University.

Thursday’s small and intimate service concluded days of public mourning for the 41st president who lay in state at the U.S. Capitol and had funerals at Washington’s National Cathedral and the Houston church where his family worshiped.

Bush’s daughter Doro was presented with the American flag that had draped her father’s coffin as it made its way from Houston to his namesake library in College Station on a specially adapted presidential train, waved on my thousands of supporters who flocked to the railway line to pay their final respects.

Earlier that afternoon, George H. W. Bush’s coffin had arrived at the university in a motorcade from the train.

His Secret Service agents and sons and grandsons were among the honorary pallbearers as his coffin was carried by members of the military.

The 41st president’s body was taken by train to his presidential library in College Station

Bush’s security detail officially ended at 6 a.m. Friday following Bush’s burial Thursday at his presidential library at Texas A&M University.

Bush’s spokesman Jim McGrath shared photos of Bush’s children, including his son former president George W. Bush, and presidential candidate Jeb Bush, walking behind the coffin, past a quote from the former president inscribed onto the walls of the library, to the burial plot where he was laid to rest beside his beloved wife Barbara and daughter Robin who died of leukemia aged 3. 

The U.S. Secret Service ended its detail for Bush after nearly 40 years of protecting the former president, who was known by the code name ‘Timberwolf’, sharing a statement that their watch officially ended at 6 a.m. Friday ‘with no incidents to report’ following Bush’s burial Thursday at his presidential library at Texas A&M University. 

In its final notification, the Bush Protective Division said: ‘You will be missed by all of us.’

Texans turned out all along the 70-mile route to pay tribute to Bush, whose flag-draped casket was borne in a glass-sided train car pulled by Union Pacific locomotive 4141.

For nearly three hours, crowds waved US and Texas flags, placed their hands on their hearts, saluted and took photographs and video, while firetrucks hoisted large flags on bridges over the tracks.

American flags were hung on buildings and a large sign read: ‘President George H.W. Bush Thank You For A Lifetime Of Service.’

His flag-draped casket was wrapped with a plastic cover due to the rainy conditions.

Bush’s arrival came after an emotional service at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church in Houston on Thursday morning. 

His body was then transported via the presidential train to the presidential library where he was laid to rest at a private ceremony.

    After lying in state at the US Capitol and a funeral at Washington’s National Cathedral, Bush had a funeral at the Houston church where his family worshiped for more than 50 years

    Thursday’s flavor was distinctly Texan, unlike days of previous Washington celebrations that had more of a national feel

    Following the service, a hearse took the late president to the Union Pacific train station in Spring, Texas, where a special funeral train, with a locomotive painted in the colors of Air Force One and named 4141, journeyed two and a half hours to College Station. 

    The train’s sixth car, a converted baggage hauler called ‘Council Bluffs,’ was fitted with transparent sides to allow mourners lining the tracks views of Bush’s flag draped coffin. 

    The 41st president’s son George W. Bush was so moved by the thousands of Texans who braved the gloomy weather to pay their respects to the former president that he posted a photo of himself waving to the crowds, writing: ‘Thank you for making 41’s last ride so special.’

      Bush was then taken to his presidential library at the university, where he was laid to rest at a private ceremony next to his wife, Barbara, who died in April, and his daughter Robin, who died at age three in 1953.  

      About 2,100 cadets in their tan dress uniforms with jackets and ties and knee-high boots waited for hours on the cold, gray day to line the road -known as Barbara Bush Drive – to the Bush library’s front doors. 

      The US Navy conducted a 21 strike fighter flyover, a salute to the World War II Navy pilot, followed by a 21-gun cannon salute on the ground. 

      Bush was buried alongside his beloved wife of 73 years Barbara, who died six months ago 

      Bush Senior had said he was looking forward to being reunited with his daughter Robin – seen on his shoulders  –  who tragically died of leukemia when she was three-years-old

        The flyover was performed as an honor guard, close friends and relatives accompanied Bush’s casket to his family’s burial plot. 

        Bush’s family, who left St. Martin’s Episcopal Church in Houston following a funeral that was attended by about 1,200 mourners, were joined by Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bush’s longtime friend James A. Baker, country singer Reba McEntire, The Oak Ridge Boys, football player J.J. Watts and basketball player Yao Ming.

        Baker choked up as he delivered a moving tribute to his friend, saying ‘he’s been my friend and he’s been my role model.’ 

        Baker served Bush as White House chief of staff and secretary of state. 

        Bush, who died last week at his Houston home at age 94, was eulogized Wednesday at a funeral service at the National Cathedral. By evening, his casket was at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church in Houston.

        Bush’s death reduces membership in the ex-presidents’ club to four: Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barack Obama.
