- Unemployed Spurr was given an interim driving ban following a police chase
- Admitted to dangerous driving and having no insurance and licence on April 17
A 20-year-old man was branded the most ‘apathetic and lazy’ person that a judge has ever seen after he admitted to dangerous driving with no insurance or licence.
Kyle Spurr, of Millom Way, Grimsby, appeared at Grimsby Crown Court where he was given an interim driving ban following a police chase in Cleethorpes, North East Lincolnshire, on April 17.
Spurr, who has been unemployed since leaving school, refused to stop for police and sped off just after midnight with the chase lasting between five and six minutes.

The Ford Fiesta he was driving was damaged during the incident after he bought it for £200 the day before.
The chase was brought to an end when the police laid a tyre-bursting stinger in the road.
Andrew Bailey, mitigating, told the court that it was a fairly determined attempt at escaping from the police but Spurr had not been drinking or taking drugs.
He had three younger passengers with him, including his brother and two of the brother’s female friends.
‘Happily, nobody was hurt but there was a real risk of it,’ said Mr Bailey.
‘The incident could have been a lot worse than it was.
‘He is living a fairly bored, immature, apathetic existence and he needs to grow up really.’
Judge Mark Bury (pictured) said that he hoped that the day’s court experience would help motivate Spurr and put him in the right frame of mind to do something positive
Mr Bailey continued: ‘He needs to get into work and get out of bed and wake his body and mind from its slumber.
‘He left school with no qualifications. He hasn’t worked ever since he left school, in the four years since he left school.
‘He hasn’t bothered with a lot but something has to change. He can’t sleep through the rest of his days.’

‘You can’t be bothered to do anything,’ he said.
‘You simply don’t have any motivation to get up and do anything apart from drive cars you should not be driving.’
Judge Bury continued: ‘Get yourself a job and do something with yourself.
‘You just can’t spend your life lazing about. You’re not thick. You’re giving the impression you are but you are not.
‘You need to do something with yourself.’
Judge Bury said that he hoped that the day’s court experience would help motivate Spurr and put him in the right frame of mind to do something positive.
Sentence on Spurr was deferred for six months but Judge Bury warned him that he would be jailed ‘100 per cent guaranteed’ if he committed any more offences before then.
Spurr, who had no previous convictions, was given an interim driving ban.
