Mom and daughter dead, man critically injured after Bronx incident

A woman and her 10-year-old daughter are dead and a man was left brain-dead Saturday in a possible double murder and attempted suicide in The Bronx.

Police are investigating whether the man strangled mom Linda Manigault and her daughter, Heaven Ross, in their Belmont apartment, then shot himself in the head.

The horror unfolded at 1:30 p.m. when a child called a relative to say the little girl wasn’t breathing, police sources said.

The relative asked police to check on the family’s third-floor apartment on Belmont Avenue near East 181st Street.

Cops found two of the woman’s other daughters, ages 15 and 17, waiting for them outside.

Her 13-year-old son was with his sister’s body, according to police.

The 34-year-old mom was found dead in another bedroom, near an unconscious 32-year-old man — identified by sources as Ezort Stevens — who had apparently shot himself in the head, police said.

Neither the mother or daughter, who were pronounced dead at the scene, had visible wounds, sources told The Post.

The man was rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, authorities said.

“There is a guy in there with a gun,” one neighbor said cops told him as they rushed to clear the area.

“The cops came running and telling me to ‘Get back! Get back!’ ” he said.

Another child from the home was seen crying for her mother, said teenage neighbor Tiana Barios.

“She was crying hysterically, saying, “Mommy! Mommy! Mommy!’ and screaming loud,” said Tiana, 13. “The little girl asked for water. We brought her water, tried to calm
them down.”

It was not clear if the man is the children’s father, but police said he appeared to have been in a relationship with the mother.

“They were churchgoing people,” downstairs neighbor Heide Sanchez told The Post. “She was such a beautiful person. She worked really hard, had four kids and now she’s gone.”

Sanchez added, sadly, “Good people — now you’ve got to bury them.”
