Speaker Nancy Pelosi said she doesn’t know what will happen on the House floor when one rogue Democrat seeks to force to a vote on impeachment against President Trump as early as Wednesday.
“I don’t know what we will do,” Pelosi told reporters Wednesday at the Capitol when asked if they’ll move to table the effort. “We will deal with it on the floor.”
Rep. Al Green (D-Texas) is forcing the House to take action on his articles of impeachment against Trump.
He made the move Tuesday evening after the House voted to condemn Trump’s “racist” tweets against four progressive Democrats, saying that measure didn’t go far enough.
Green used a procedural move that requires the House to take action within two legislative days.
While many liberal activists are clamoring for impeachment, Pelosi doesn’t support it and wants the House committees to continue their investigations of Trump and his administration.
“With all the respect in the world for him (Green), we have six committees that are working (and) following the facts in terms of any abuse of power, obstruction of justice and the rest that the president may have engaged in,” Pelosi said.
“That is the serious path that we are on. Not that Mr. Green is not serious. But we’ll deal with at the floor,” she continued.
Action on the House floor on Green’s impeachment request is likely to happen Wednesday evening, according to a House aide.
