Police in east China are investigating a bizarre video that shows a schoolboy clinging onto the back of a bus as it speeds down a busy road. 

The unidentified youngster, wearing a backpack, was filmed gripping the bus’s engine cover while perching on the vehicle’s thin rear bumper.

While many net users called the boy a ‘real-life Spider-Man,’ authorities slammed the boy’s brazen act and said they are tracking him down.

The video, filmed by a passing motorist on Monday, shows the boy perched behind the No 44 bus in the city of Yantai in Shandong province. 

‘How dangerous!’ A woman is heard saying while the boy, on all fours, bobbed up and down as the bus travelled over uneven road.    

The Yantai Public Bus Company told Beijing News that the incident is currently under police investigation.

‘Officers are going to check the traffic cameras as the boy had covered the licence plate number,’ the bus operator’s spokesperson Mr Li said. 

‘The driver of the bus appeared to have been unaware of the incident as the boy was in his blindspot,’ he added. 

‘This boy just wants to be Spider-Man!’ one user commented on Chinese micro-blogging site Weibo. ‘But still, he could have been seriously injured.’

‘Was he trying to hitch a free ride?’ another said. 

‘Spider-Boy’s identity is going to be exposed by the police!’ one said.
