Here's what we know about the missing Brit.
When did Grace Millane go missing?
She went missing on Saturday, December 1, 2018.
Originally from Essex, she travelled to the North Island city in late November but alarms bells rang when she failed to respond to birthday well-wishes on her 22nd birthday on December 2.
Grace had been staying at the Base Backpackers on Queen Street, a popular location for travellers in the centre of the city.
Her brother Michael said Grace was missing after failing to return to her room, and police were now scouring social media and CCTV for clues.
He added: "Thursday (November 29) was the last time we spoke to Gracie, we speak daily. We're still appealing for information."
What is the latest news?
Police said they believe she was murdered but have yet to find her body.
According to the NZ Herald, there was no evidence of foul play and her belongings remained in her hostel room.
She was last seen at a hotel with a "male companion", police have revealed.
Police said they will charge a 26-year-old man, he will remain in custody until Monday when he will appear in court.
Her father, millionaire property developer David Millane, has also flown out to New Zealand to help with the search.
Detective Inspector Scott Beard, of Auckland City Police, said the evidence indicated she was "no longer alive".
He added her family were "devastated" and the "thoughts of all New Zealanders will be with Grace's family tonight."
The police are also keen to find a number of her belongings, including her passport, a silver necklace and a pink watch, saying they could help locate her body.
A person claiming to have seen Grace also spoke with the New Zealand paper – saying she spotted Grace at the Manukau on-ramp – roughly 14miles from Sky City.
She said: "Where she was standing, it was really bizarre and she was by herself, nobody around just a girl on her own.
"I can honestly 100 per cent say I saw a young girl, absolutely so close to her description that it's not funny, and there was no way I was going to stop.
"She was in a very unusual place to stand, I would have thought a hitchhiker would have stopped on the left-hand side to get in the car, she was on the other side."
Who is Grace Millane?
Grace graduated with a marketing degree from the University of Lincoln in September and went travelling on October 26.
The outgoing former student spent six weeks in South America as part of a gap year in which she planned to take in Thailand, the Philippines and Australia, then arrived in New Zealand alone on November 19.
She is 22-years-old and originally from Billericay, Essex.
