Woman, 79, killed and two men, 82 and 50, in serious condition after house fire breaks out | The Sun

A WOMAN has died and two men are in a serious condition after a blaze tore through a family home.

Firefighters dashed to the scene of the inferno at 6am today, pulling a 79-year-old woman and the men, 82 and 50, from the flames.

However, despite the efforts of emergency services, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The horror happened in North Lanarkshire, north-east of Glasgow.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is under way.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said it sent six fire appliances and an aerial height appliance to the scene.

A Police Scotland spokesman told Lanarkshire Live: “We were called around 6.25am on Friday, July 1 to a report of a house fire in Glen Fyne Road, Cumbernauld.

“Emergency services attended and a 79-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Two men, aged 82 and 50, were taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary with serious injuries.

"Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
