A Place in the Sun presenter Ben Hillman has revealed how properties are chosen on the show – and it might not be what you're expecting.

The popular TV host is a regular face on the Channel 4 house-hunting programme after he joined the much-loved series in 2016.

And now he's spilled some behind-the-scenes secrets, including how producers line up the properties pitched to the sun-loving couples.

Talking to The Sun, he said: "We've got our production team on the ground ahead of me arriving who have looked at so many properties, and they would whittle them down, then I look through those properties with them and we would see whether that is the right line up.

"And sometimes as well we’ve got other options like in the wings just in case the direction takes a bit of a turn which is unexpected."

The star also explained that there is a contingency plan in place if participants are not happy with any of the five properties they're shown.

Ben added: "It has happened. And we’ve completely changed tactic and we pulled one of our reserves out of the bag and really turned things around."

Earlier this summer, A Place in the Sun producers were forced to make changes to their filming schedule due to wildfires in Europe.

Discussing the unexpected catastrophe, a source said: "Producers have altered the filming schedule to shoot scenes early in the morning and later at night to avoid as much discomfort to participants and talent."

The source also said producers tried to film content indoors as much as they could while "bosses are also enforcing more breaks than usual".

The news comes after presenter Ben told fans "it's not good news" after losing "Shed of the Year".

The star entered the niche competition and revamped his garden shed which he named Tangerine Dream.

However, he was left disappointed when his shed never received the first prize.

Last month, he told fans online: "Well the results for Shed of the Year 2023 are in and unfortunately it’s not good news for Tangerine Dream, hats off to Frankenshed.

"Not only did Tangerine Dream not win, it wasn’t even best in its category. As you can see I am already working on its full demolition ready for the 2024 competition."
