Ed Sheeran cancelled his Las Vegas concert stop on Saturday just hours before he was due to take to the stage over concerns the floor would collapse.

The Shape Of You hitmaker, 32, was slated to perform for concertgoers amid his North American trek at Allegiant Stadium – which is just below the Vegas Strip.

However, the Grammy winner penned a statement which read: ‘I can’t believe I’m typing this but there’s been some challenges encountered during the load in of our vegas show.’

He then explained: ‘It’s impossible to go forward with the show. I’m so sorry. I know everyone has travelled in for this and I wish I could change it.’

It has now been reported that it was a safety issue that caused the cancellation, after a flooring issue was flagged when Ed’s team brought their gear in for the soundcheck.

According to The Sun, rubber tiling had become unstuck causing two tall towers to slip overnight by about a foot each.

Despite efforts by engineers to reinforced the towers, they were still shifting necessitating the cancellation of the show.

A source told the publication: ‘Health and safety is paramount at gigs of all magnitude and scale – but even more so at a 65,000-seater NFL stadium.

‘The issue was with the floor rather than the stage itself but Ed and his crew battled for 24 hours to salvage the show.

‘He was obviously gutted they couldn’t make it happen but it was completely out of his hands and the right decision to protect his fans.’

Ed revealed that Saturday’s show would be postponed to the following month, writing: ‘The gig will be postponed to Saturday October 28th and all purchased tickets will be valid for that date. I’m so, so sorry x.’

Allegiant Stadium had hinted earlier in the day that there were unclear issues and jumped to Twitter to update concertgoers that the show would be ‘significantly delayed.’

However, in another recent update, the stadium tweeted, ‘This evening’s Ed Sheeran concert has been rescheduled for Saturday, October 28. Previously purchased tickets will be valid for the rescheduled date.’

Apology: However, the Grammy winner penned a statement which read: ‘I can’t believe I’m typing this but there’s been some challenges encountered during the load in of our vegas show’

‘Impossible’: He then explained: ‘It’s impossible to go forward with the show. I’m so sorry. I know everyone has travelled in for this and I wish I could change it’ (pictured last month)

Some fans were less than thrilled about the last minute devastating news, and social media users jumped to the comment section to voice their frustration on Instagram.

One wrote: ‘Absolutely insane. So disappointing. waited out in the heat for almost 2 hours,’ while another typed, ‘Are you paying for my hotel. Why would you make me stand here for 2 hours.’

Another added: ‘I’ve been outside and paid for flight and hotel and been in hear for an hour…I want all my money back this is ridiculous.’ One simply penned, ‘That’s Bulls**t.’

One fan expressed: ‘We’re here outside?? No advice given?? What is going on travelled from the uk????’

Another explained: ‘People have been sitting outside for over an hour. EMTS have been carrying people out. They haven’t given us any updates at all. People are crowding in the lobby, others are still waiting outside. They aren’t even giving out waters.’

One fan stated that the situation wasn’t a first, writing: ‘Honestly I’ve bought tickets to Ed Sheeran’s concert 3 times but only made it to one. First time he broke his hand. Fair. Second time we waited for three hours in a lightning storm in the outdoor stadium and Ed was comfortably chilling in the shelter behind the stage. So idk about him.’

One fan came to Ed’s defense and penned: ‘This sounds like a frustrating situation, and I don’t envy being in Ed’s shoes or any one who bought ticket’s shoes. It also sounds like it was out of Ed’s control, and sometimes these things do happen in life.’

‘They suck for all involved. These types of things just really, really suck. If you traveled to see him… hey, you made it to Vegas! That’s incredible! If you can’t have a good memory of an Ed Sheeran concert tied to this trip, try your best to make a new positive memory.’

Special dates: On Friday, Ed took to Instagram and announced two special dates at London’s Royal Albert Hall on November 18th and 19th – which he is calling the Last Days Of Autumn

In a video and lengthy caption, the singer opened up about the album and the inspiration behind the tracks.

‘Last autumn, I found that my friends and I were going through so many life changes. After the heat of the summer, everything either calmed, settled, fell apart, came to a head or imploded,’ he wrote to his fans.

Ed recalled that he ‘went through a difficult time’ and explained that ‘writing songs helped.’ He also revealed that he penned songs from the ‘perspectives’ of his friends and ‘some from mine, to capture how they and I viewed the world at that time.’

‘My dad and brother told me about a composer called Elgar, who composed ‘Enigma Variations’, where each of the 14 compositions were about a different one of his friends. This is what inspired me to make this album.’

‘When I recorded Subtract with Aaron Dessner, we clicked immediately. We wrote and recorded non-stop and this album was born out of that partnership,’ the Perfect hitmaker added.

‘I feel he has captured the feeling of autumn so wonderfully in his sonics and I hope everyone loves it as much as I do.’

Some of the tracks that will appear on his seventh album include: Plastic Bag, Midnight, When Will I Be Alright, and also Amazing.
