In Virginia, we uphold the rule of law without exception, whether dealing with violent repeat offenders, big pharma, fraudsters and scammers, or wildlife traffickers,&#8217; the DA said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>PETA US Foundation Director of Captive Animal Welfare Debbie Metzler said: &#8216;Antle escaped a prison sentence this time, but he&#8217;s still facing multiple federal charges for alleged money laundering and alleged wildlife trafficking of animals, including endangered cheetahs and a chimpanzee.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Based on his convictions in Virginia and his years of mistreating animals, including tearing baby big cats, chimpanzees, and other animals away from their mothers to be used in public encounters, PETA is calling on federal authorities to terminate the licenses that keep his sleazy roadside zoo operating.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Antle appeared in the wildly popular 2020 Netflix documentary Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness, shedding light on big cat breeders and private zoos in the US.<\/p>\n<p>The show followed eccentric Oklahoma animal park boss Joe Exotic, who was sentenced to 21 years in prison for a murder-for-hire attempt on his rival, animal rights activist Carole Baskin.<\/p>\n<p>In the series, Antle is portrayed as Exotic&#8217;s mentor. He is also shown to have a cult-like approach to business, as a polygamist with a string of devoted female employee followers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Antle&#8217;s history of violations dates back to 1989 when he received a fine from the US Department of Agriculture for abandoning deer and peacocks at his zoo in Virginia.<\/p>\n<p>He has since amassed more than 35 USDA violations for mistreatment of animals.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/04\/09\/58663535-12592165-Ongoing_criticism_Antle_also_faced_criticism_from_PETA_for_allow-a-9_1696409096115.jpg\" height=\"634\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Antle posing with big cats.\u00a0Antle was sentenced on Tuesday by a Frederick County judge to two years in prison with time suspended for each charge, to run concurrently<\/p>\n<p>In June 2022, Antle was charged with laundering $505,000, money federal prosecutors said that he believed to be the proceeds of an operation that smuggled people across the Mexican border into the United States.<\/p>\n<p>He could spend up to 20 years in federal prison if convicted of the money laundering charges.<\/p>\n<p>In October 2020, Antle was charged with illegally purchasing endangered lion cubs in Virginia for display at the park, Myrtle Beach Safari, as well as nine misdemeanor animal cruelty charges.<\/p>\n<p>In June, he was convicted of\u00a0two felony counts of wildlife trafficking and two felony counts of conspiring to wildlife traffic.<\/p>\n<p>He was cleared of all the misdemeanor charges he faced.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Antle&#8217;s daughters, Tawny Antle and Tilakum Watterson, who also faced misdemeanor animal cruelty charges, were cleared of all counts.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/04\/09\/58663537-12592165-Legal_issues_In_October_2020_the_animal_trainer_was_indicted_for-a-10_1696409111737.jpg\" height=\"793\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Antle with a tiger over his shoulder.
