LIONEL MESSI left fans stunned with the \u201ccoldest reply ever\u201d after his former team-mate was accused of spitting on him.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The legendary forward came on as a sub as Argentina beat their South American rivals Paraguay 1-0 in a qualifier for the 2026 World Cup.<\/p>\n

Messi, who captained Argentina to last year\u2019s trophy in Qatar, was cheered on by home fans following his latest club spell with Inter Miami.<\/p>\n

However, the game took a sour turn when Messi clashed with Paraguay striker Antonio Sanabria.<\/p>\n

The Torino forward, who was a youngster at Barcelona between 2009 and 2013 during Messi\u2019s reign as Nou Camp king, cut an unhappy figure as time ticked down.<\/p>\n

Video from the match showed Messi mouthing something at Sanabria before walking away.<\/p>\n

And it\u2019s at this moment that the Paraguay ace is accused of spitting at Messi in retaliation.<\/p>\n

The alleged incident was not seen by match officials.<\/p>\n

Sanabria denies spitting at Messi, saying: \u201cI was looking at the image, it seems like I spit out but no, there\u2019s nothing to see, it was far away.<\/p>\n

\u201cNothing happened with Messi. It seems like I spit out but there\u2019s nothing to see, it was far away and I totally deny it.\u201d<\/p>\n

However, that didn\u2019t stop Messi from delivering a brutal put-down of Sanabria after the final whistle.<\/p>\n

He said: \u201cThe truth is that I didn\u2019t see it. They told me in the locker room that one of them had spit on me.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe truth is I don\u2019t even know who this guy is, I didn\u2019t see him, they only told me.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t want to give important (talk) either because he\u2019s going to come out, talk everywhere and it\u2019s worse.<\/p>\n

Fans were left stunned by Messi\u2019s words, with some hailing his reply as the \u201ccoldest ever.\u201d<\/p>\n

One said: \u201cThat\u2019s the coldest reply he\u2019s ever given.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another declared: \u201cDamn, that will cut Sanabria deep considering he was in Barca youth teams and even trained with the first team.\u201d<\/p>\n
