ROBBIE FOWLER has been sacked as Al-Qadsiah boss despite an unbeaten start to the season.

The Liverpool legend took the job tasked with promotion to the Saudi Pro League.

Al-Qadsiah finished 11th out of 18 teams last season, 23 points behind the promotion places.

But Fowler guided them to six wins and two draws in their first eight games this term, leaving them second in the table.

His only defeat as manager came against Al-Taawoun in the King Cup.

Al-Qadsiah thanked Fowler for his efforts as they announced his contract had been terminated.

The 48-year-old has been replaced by former Real Madrid captain Michel, 60, who was free after leaving Olympiacos earlier this year.

Carlos Anton was appointed as technical director during the summer, having previously worked at Real Madrid as an academy scout.

Fowler began his managerial career at Thai side Muangthong United during the 2011-12 season.

He later worked within Liverpool's academy, before taking on a job at Ange Postecoglou's former side Brisbane Roar in the A-League in 2019.

FREE BETS – BEST BETTING OFFERS AND BONUSES NEW CUSTOMERS

After a promising start he opted to leave Roar to return to England upon the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic.

He returned to the dugout in October in 2020 with Indian side East Bengal, but won just three of 20 games at the helm before leaving 11 months later.

His star players at Al-Qadsiah included former Wigan ace Max Power, ex-Watford winger Andre Carrillo and Everton and Leeds old boy Joel Robles.

As a player, Fowler remains a legend on the Kop.

He scored 183 goals in 369 appearances over two spells with the Reds.

His other clubs included Leeds, Manchester City and Cardiff.

Fowler earned 26 England caps, scoring seven goals.

</picture>ROBBIE RETURNS
