Girls Aloud have opened up on the pain of reuniting without late bandmate Sarah Harding, two years on from her death – admitting they miss "everything" about her.

Cheryl, Nicola Roberts, Kimberley Walsh and Nadine Coyle have confirmed that the rumours of them reuniting are true, but told Heart FM that being a four-piece band is taking some getting used to as they grieve the loss of Sarah.

Sarah died of breast cancer in September 2021 aged just 39 and her co-stars have spoken previously about precious memories they shared with her in her final months.

Talking to Heart breakfast hosts Jamie Theakston and Amanda Holden on Thursday morning, Cheryl shared: "I did speak to Sarah one on one and she said I hope you four do something when I'm not here, but in that moment I couldn't entertain that conversation. I was like trying to keep her up, and was like, no no no, it'll be all of us."

Jamie asked the group about how odd it felt to them to be back together as a four instead of a five, and Nicola agreed that is was "so strange".

Cheryl added heartbreakingly that they still felt they were waiting for Sarah to join them, saying: "Even up to this morning getting dressed. I mean, Sarah was always the one who would be the 10, 15 minutes late anyway. So you still feel like you're waiting for someone else."

Kimberley agreed that there was "definitely something missing" without Sarah by their side, as Nadine said: "For sure."

In an emotional clip from their Heart interview, Jamie asked the group: "What do you miss most about her?"

Nicola said: "Everything. Just the energy like Cheryl said. You never quite knew what you were going to get with Sarah, but it was always impactful."

Kimberley shared some of her treasured memories of spending time with Sarah before she passed away, saying that she loved to reminisce over the height of their fame as popstars.

She said: "We always talk about how much she loved Girls Aloud. She loved it. It was just the best time ever for her and we spoke about it so much in the few months before she passed away.

"She made us watch old videos and we had all those amazing times together."

Girls Aloud had been teasing some big news on social media this week and confirmed on Thursday that they would be getting back together for a UK and Ireland tour in May and June 2024 which would be "a celebration of Sarah".

But Cheryl told British Vogue that there would be no new music, as the group don't want to record anything that doesn't include Sarah.

She said: "This is about celebrating the 20 years we’ve all had. So the tour has got to be inclusive of Sarah because she’s such a massive part of our make-up. It will never feel like the old Girls Aloud again but we’ve reached a point where we feel ready to celebrate all of it. Sarah included."
