Joe Swash is returning to EastEnders for the first time in 15 years – and the date of his arrival has now been confirmed.

It was recently announced that Joe, 41, will be returning to the soap after more than a decade away from the hit BBC show. He played the role of Mickey Miller from 2003 to 2008, but his comeback comes in a different form – hosting an EastEnders special.

Joe will be hosting the special, titled EastEnders: The Six – Revealed, which will delve deeper into the mystery surrounding the Christmas murder.

The I'm A Celeb winner will be joined by Gillian Taylforth, Balvinder Sopal, Lacey Turner, Diane Parish, Letitia Dean, and Kellie Bright – who play the six Walford women involved in the death of an as-yet-unknown male character.

The victim's identity has been teased since the flash-forward episode which aired in February 2023 and is likely to be revealed on Christmas Day, with the actresses sharing their thoughts on the storyline in the special.

EastEnders: The Six – Revealed will air on Monday, December 11, at 8pm on BBC Three. Joe's return to the soap via hosting was revealed via The Sun.

An insider told the publication: "There is so much buzz around the show at the moment and with so many big stories bosses felt it was the perfect moment to give the audience an exclusive behind-the-scenes access with a one-off interview special that will be hosted by Joe Swash later in the year."

With Joe being one of the standout stars of the soap in the last two decades, his return to host the special makes a lot of sense.

The source continued: "Joe is such a huge part of the EastEnders family, so he was a natural fit to present as he has such a history with the show.

"The special is unlike one they’ve done before so viewers are going to love it."

While the dad-of-four isn't reprising his original role, he has been open about a possible return in the future. He previously returned to the show in 2011 for a one-off storyline which saw him return for the wedding of Darren Miller and Jodie Gold.

Since starring on the soap, Joe has established himself as a household name – winning both I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! and Dancing on Ice, as well as starring in a number of different television shows.

On a possible return to EastEnders, he recently said: "EastEnders has a knack for resurrecting characters, so there's always a possibility of a comeback! If they truly wanted me back, they'd give me a call. My life is pretty hectic with the kids, but if the opportunity aligned with my schedule, I'd be thrilled to return."
