A new bar has opened in the UK with strict rules forbidding men from approaching women.

Dear Sailor, which is described as ‘a beautiful cocktail bar inspired by the speakeasies and jazz bars of 1930s Tokyo, opened up last weekend in Spinningfields, Manchester.

However according to Manchester Evening News the venue appears to come with some strict rules for customers to abide.

These include ‘no name-dropping’ and an edict that ‘gentlemen will not introduce themselves to ladies.’

If a man dares to break the rule, the bar has advised women to simply ‘lift your chin slightly and ignore him’.

However women are free to introduce themselves to men or they can simply ask the bartender to make the introduction.

Sme of the other quirky rules include ‘no fighting, no play fighting, and no talking about fighting’.

And the new venue asks customers to not ‘bring anyone unless you would leave that person alone in your home’ because ‘you are responsible for the behaviour of your guests.’

1. No name-dropping, no star f**king.

3. No fighting, no play fighting, no talking about fighting.

4. Gentlemen can remove their hats. Hooks are provided if necessary.

5. Ladies, feel free to start a conversation or ask the bartender to introduce you. If a man you don’t know speaks to you, please lift your chin slightly and ignore him.

7. Shoes off when dancing on the furniture.

11. Please make all your travel plans and say all farewells before leaving the bar.

Co-owner Christian Coates told the publication that the rules are slightly tongue in cheek, but says they’re all intended to encourage customers to be respectful of each other and the venue.

He said: ‘It’s a case of people knowing what to expect when they arrive but we’re also expecting a level of conduct from them too. So everyone comes in the same frame of mind.

‘They will be ever evolving and there’s a few more to be added after this weekend. But rules are made to be broken too.’

Christian revealed the new venue is like a members’ club ‘without the snootiness’.

In the 1930s, Tokyo was known for its bars that became busy speakeasies were people would gather after hours to indulge in forbidden goods from overseas like music, food and alcohol.
