Love Island 2023 winners Jess Harding and Sammy Root are "just very different" people, who "behave differently", according to Jess in a cryptic hint at the possible reason behind their split.
Jaws remain firmly on the floor since their shock separation was announced at the beginning of this week, and now the 22-year-old blonde has come forward with a vague explanation of what went wrong between them.
Responding to a fan for an Instagram Q&A, Jess wrote: "I really don't want to go into detail by doing a big statement but we're just very different and behave differently and that's it."
A source close to the exes originally told MailOnline: "Jess and Sammy have called it quits. Things have changed since leaving the villa and Jess has realised they're better off as friends."
Sammy, a 22-year-old project manager, seemed rather baffled by their very public split.
Having discovered that they were officially over via various news lines, he shared on social media: "Hi guys, I thought I would come online to address today's news about me and Jess. Yes we had a private conversation regarding our relationship but this was left up in the air as Jess is still away and we haven't had a chance to speak in person. For me to then see today via the media that we had officially broken up came as a total shock.
"To be totally clear – I at least wanted a face to face conversation to see if our relationship could be saved and felt this would be the respectful way forward," he pointed out.
"We had the most incredible experience winning Love Island and I genuinely saw a future with Jess. I was committed and respectful to our relationship. Unfortunately things don't always work out the way you'd hoped. Despite how this has all played out today. I think Jess is an amazing woman and genuinely wish her all the best."
As for the rest of Jess's fan Q&A, two individuals asked how she's feeling about the situation and what's next in her journey.
"It's been over a week now since we split, so I'm getting there. We shared a once in a lifetime experience together so of course I'm sad," she commented, before revealing: "I want to work on myself and really make the most of the opportunity I have been given. Winning Love Island was the best thing ever and I am still so grateful for everyone that voted for us.
"My In the Style collection will be landing soon so I have lots to keep me busy!"
Interestingly, relationship expert and So Syncd co-founder Louella Alderson proved to be the forecaster of this whole thing, ruling out any long-term relationship chances for Jess and Sammy.
Louella exclusively told OK!: "There's a chance Sammy could get the ick with Jess after the villa. Sammy has said too many times that Jess isn't his type and he wasn't physically attracted to her. The way Sammy said this felt quite nasty at the time.
"While there doesn't necessarily need to be instant physical chemistry, as attraction may develop as you get to know someone more, it could be a red flag for Jess outside the villa."
