After a quiet start to the year, the Duchess of Sussex has been busy planning the next phase of her career as she builds a wellness and lifestyle brand.
But her big comeback could face an obstacle as a royal expert claims that her ex-husband, Trevor Engelson, has had offers to write a tell-all book about their failed marriage.
Meghan was married to film management and production company owner Trevor from 2011 to 2013 before they divorced on the grounds of “irreconcilable differences”. There were reports that Meghan posted her wedding and engagement rings back to Trevor in Los Angeles.
Now, royal author Neil Sean, who wrote the book The A To Z Of Harry And Meghan, claims Trevor has had many offers to put pen to paper about their past – and he also claims that Meghan, 42, will be understandably worried.
Neil, who has met Trevor, said, “Many agents have offered him big deals and big money when Meghan was at the height of her fame. I would think that he will take stock and look at all options.
“Meghan is bound to be petrified. He would truly have a remarkable story because after all, he would have first-hand experience of what it was like to be married the first time around to the actress. I have met him briefly and he strikes me as a nice, caring man who clearly has moved on. However, there is no escape from his story.”
Trevor’s Beverly Hills-based production company, Underground, created the hit TV crime drama Snowfall, which ran for six seasons and starred British actor Damson Idris.
Last year, he was rumoured to be working with royal author Tom Bower on his book Revenge: Meghan, Harry And The War Between The Windsors .
The book included details about how troubled Meghan’s first marriage was said to be. According to it, their first few years as a couple were blissful, with Meghan nicknaming her husband “Trevity-Trev-Trev”.
But after Meghan was cast in legal drama Suits in July 2011, their relationship apparently began to deteriorate.
Meghan remained in Toronto after filming on the show finished. Tom claimed that she told her friends she didn’t want to be “possessed” by her then-husband, who was still based in Los Angeles.
Tom wrote, “To the producers’ bemusement, Meghan was keen to set up her permanent home in Toronto rather than commute like all the other actors from Los Angeles.”
He added that Meghan told producers she had no problem leaving the city, or indeed her partner, behind and he claimed the show was Meghan’s ticket out of the marriage.
Neil, who fronts Neil Sean’s Daily News Headlines on YouTube, says a book about Trevor’s account of his marriage to Meghan would attract a lot of interest.
“His story would be the inside track on how ruthless, ambitious and determined she was,” he says. “If he talks about how he was dumped and why, then it could be explosive. Meghan is not known for keeping any friends from her past and Trevor’s story so far is a huge mystery.”
Meghan and Trevor met in a Hollywood bar in 2004 and moved in together soon after. They dated for seven years before marrying on a Jamaican beach in 2011.
Trevor was welcomed into the Markle family. Meghan’s now-estranged father Thomas Markle, 79, was very fond of his son-in-law and described him as a “perfect gentleman”.
“I really liked Trevor,” Thomas said in an interview in 2018.
“He got to know my mother and he was always so kind and supportive. He was a perfect gentleman to my daughter and treated me with great respect.
“When he asked for Meghan’s hand, I could not have been happier.”
Trevor was also close to Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland.
Thomas said, “He treated Meghan so well and he was always so kind and respectful to Doria and me.
“Meghan loves to entertain, so we would be invited for meals and special occasions. I enjoyed Trevor’s company very much.”
Thomas has spoken widely about his upset at allegedly being ignored by Meghan following her 2018 wedding to Prince Harry, which Thomas did not attend due to ill health. It came shortly after he admitted to conspiring with a photographer to pose for a series of staged paparazzi photos.
Meghan’s estranged older sister Samantha Markle has also called her sister “Princess Pushy” and written a book that details the pair’s rivalry when their father was still married to Doria.
But Neil claims the family members had no choice but to speak out and warns Prince Harry that Trevor could do the same.
He said, “If I were Harry I would look out.I think there are many more skeletons in her closet. Her past is her future.”
Meanwhile, Harry, 38, flew to London last week to attend the WellChild Awards before heading to Dusseldorf to host the Invictus Games, where he will also celebrate his 39th birthday on Friday.
Meghan is set to join him to host a Life Stories Scene in the closing ceremony of the games. The segment will provide insight into the bravery and resilience of the injured servicemen and women who are competing.
