IF you’re anything like us, you’ve been counting down the days until you can start wearing your autumn wardrobe.
But as you reach for your chunky knits and jeans, what should you be pairing them with?
A style pro has done a detailed run-through of the shoes of the season and what boots tick all the right boxes – and those that should be left on the shelf.
And it’s bad news if your go-to is an over-the-knee style, as fashion influencer Julia said they fall firmly into the don’t category.
The New York based style expert, who can be found on TikTok at @beingjulia, explained: “If you are wondering what boots to wear for fall 2023, look no further.
“Let’s talk about the dos and don’ts for boots this fall, and this is just based on what I’m seeing for trends this year.”

She then began with what she deemed the “don’ts” – starting out with a popular style that’s been rapidly decreasing in popularity.
Julia explained: “We’ve not seen the over the knee suede boots in a long time, so these ones are a no.”
She then said the other styles that we should be swerving, as she continued: “We want to avoid the rounded toe ankle boots, especially when paired with rolled up, skinny jeans.
“Let’s also avoid boots with the V at the side,” she added, as she pointed to a picture of the boot with a V dip.

Julia also said that slouchy suede boots and riding boots are out – especially when they don’t have a heel.
But once she’d covered the ones we shouldn’t be stepping out in, Julia said there were plenty of other options left.
She began: “Now let’s move onto the dos.
“We still love ankle boots, but look for something with a square or a pointed toe.
This is just based on what I’m seeing for trends this year
“And make sure that your jeans are going over the ankle boots so that we don’t see your ankles.”
Up next, Julia highlighted the return of cowboy boots as being a key trend for the autumn.
She then added: “And you can never go wrong with a classic pair of knee-high leather boots. I love them paired with a maxi or midi skirt.”
Julia concluded that there’s one final style to keep your eyes peeled for.
She said: “We are starting to see the emergence of the biker or the moto boot.
