Sally Nugent was left red-faced on BBC Breakfast after her co-host Jon Kay asked her about his "sexy" Hull accent in a hilarious moment on Monday, 11 December.
Presenters Sally, 52, and Jon, 54, discussed the Hull accent after Hollywood actor Timothée Chalamet claimed the accent is "sexy" in a new interview, leaving people shocked.
Jon, who hails from Hull, proudly discussed his accent, with Sally kicking things off by asking: "Where are you from Jon?"
He responded: "I'm from Hull, can't you tell from my sexy…my sexy tone. That's not the reaction I was expecting," as Sally burst into giggles and covered her face.
Jon then went on to admit: "I left when I was one and a half," and Sally then said that Jon didn't have a Hull accent whatsoever.
Making reference to footage that showed people from Hull speaking, Sally replied: "You don't sound…you haven't got that accent, the man who was talking about the hosepipe and the ban, you don't sound like him."
Jon, who grew up in Cheshire, then quipped: "I should have stayed there it would have changed my life! I would have had a much more exciting morning."
The discussion regarding the accent later saw comedian Lucy Beaumont, who hails from Kingston upon Hull, appear on BBC Breakfast via video link to give her verdict on the debate, as she proudly defended Hull.
Viewers also weighed in on social media, with one person writing on X: "I'm loving the fact that @RealChalamet is saying that the Hull accent is sexy. I'm proud of our City #Hull."
However a second disagreed, saying: "I'm from Hull. The accent is awful. I think Chalamet had drunk a bit too much French wine."
Actor Timothée, 27, who is from New York City, spoke about UK accents in an interview with Ladbible, which has since gone viral on social media.
The Wonka star said he admired the Essex accent as well as a "middle aged northern accent" before adding that "Hull is sexy". The camera crew can be heard bursting into laughter after Timothée's confession, with him then innocently asking: “Why is everyone cracking up?”
