Two strangers help each other get through terrifying turbulence

Total strangers who were seated side-by-side on a VERY bumpy flight delight the internet by forming firm friendship while swigging whiskey and plotting their ‘escape’ to cope with terrifying turbulence

  • Lila Smith, from New York, was flying last week when the plane started shaking
  • The 21-year-old bonded with her seat neighbor, Sabrina, over their mutual fear
  • The two got through it together by taking shots, making jokes, and linking arms

Two strangers sitting side-by-side on an extremely bumpy flight helped each other get through the terrible turbulence – bonding over the terrifying experience and leaving the internet in awe of their newfound friendship.

Lila Smith, 21, from New York City, was on a United flight from Newark, New Jersey, to Greenville, South Carolina, last week when the airplane suddenly got extremely shaky.

Already a self-described ‘anxious flyer,’ the intense turbulence left Lila worried that something bad was going to happen.

But when she noticed that her seat neighbor, named Sabrina, was even more scared than she was, she struck up a conversation – and the two decided to get through the scary experience together.

The two then decided to get through the scary experience together. They’re seen holding on to one another during the flight

They comforted one another by making jokes, linking arms, and even doing a shot of Jack Daniel’s whiskey – all of which Lila documented and shared to her TikTok account, where it went viral, gaining more than 1.5 million views.

‘Me and my seat-mate Sabrina almost died,’ Lila wrote in the beginning of the TikTok, as a clip showed them each drinking a mini bottle of alcohol together.

‘Don’t fly United,’ Sabrina told the camera, before Lila jokingly asked her, ‘You can’t swim, right?’

‘No, I’m gonna get one someone’s back,’ Sabrina replied, adding. ‘I’m gonna lie and say I’m pregnant so I can go first.’

In another clip, Lila told Sabrina that she had farted while she was walking through the first class area when boarding the plane, which caused Sabrina to erupt into laughter.

More footage showed them asking one of the flight attendants if ‘that severity’ of turbulence was normal, who ensured them that they were indeed safe.

The TikTok ended with the ladies sitting in their seats after landing. Sabrina stuck out her tongue and gave the camera a piece sign as Lila revealed, ‘We lived to tell the tale.’

‘My new friend/seatmate Sabrina and I saw God on our United flight, but luckily Jack Daniel’s helped us,’ Lila captioned the video.

While discussing the moment further with Insider, Lila explained that the turbulence was the ‘worst’ she had ever experience and lasted for about an hour.

‘We were planning our escape if we went down,’ she told the outlet about how her and Sabrina got through it together.

‘Sabrina and I were like, “If we’re going down on this flight, we’re going down together.”‘

Unfortunately, Lila revealed that she and Sabrina didn’t exchange any info before going their separate ways.

‘[I believe] we are in each other’s paths at certain times and places [for a reason],’ she added.

Many people on the web were enthralled with watching the two ladies work together to overcome their fear, and they took to the comment section to share their thoughts

‘Now, I hope Sabrina is having fun with her family – and maybe we will see each other in the back row on the way home.’

Even so, many people on the web were enthralled with watching the two ladies work together to overcome their fear, and they took to the comment section of her TikTok to share their thoughts.

‘I actually don’t need love at first sight I just need to meet a BFF on a plane,’ one person wrote.

‘You guys are so cute,’ someone else said, while a third user added, ‘Why do I have fomo?’

‘The fact that y’all didn’t know each other and just became friends we need more people like this,’ read a fourth comment.

‘I’m going to start taking plane rides just to make new friends it seems so fun,’ joked another viewer.
