In the Premier League, Tottenham defeated Luton 1-0 despite being down to 10-men and coming under late pressure, Chelsea bounced back to beat Burnley 4-1, Everton thrashed Bournemouth 3-0, while Fulham emerged victorious over Sheffield United 3-1.

For the Championship leg of the bet, Middlesbrough hammered Sunderland 4-0 at the Stadium of Light despite their early season struggles after the hosts’ Dan Neil was controversially dismissed on the stroke of half-time.

Blackburn comfortably defeated struggling QPR 4-0, while Leicester kept up their fine form to beat Stoke 2-0 and Ipswich overcame Preston 4-3.

Leeds edged out Bristol City 2-1 thanks to Joel Piroe’s second half strike, while Crystal Palace’s clash with Nottingham Forest ended goalless.

The most drama came in the final three legs of the punter’s accumulator with Watford pegging back Cardiff in the second half to draw 1-1.

Elsewhere Millwall fought back to secure a point against Hull but the most nerves would have emerged from the Coventry Building Society Arena where Ben Gibson’s 88th minute own goal ensured the spoils were shared between Coventry and Norwich, meaning the individual won £264,712.

A Betfair spokesperson revealed the news on Saturday evening as they said: ‘It’s been a memorable day for one Betfair punter who has taken us to the absolute cleaners with a game changing 13-fold, winning an incredible £264,000.

‘Hats off to the punter who not only predicted a number of wins, but also four draws in matches across the Premier League and Championship.

‘An 88th minute equaliser for Coventry against Norwich really rubbed the salt in our wounds, but that’s football, and from everyone at Betfair we have to wish them a huge congratulations!’

The punter chose nine teams to win – including 10-man Tottenham, who beat Luton thanks to Micky Van de Ven’s (pictured) second half goal – along with four games to end in a draw
