Matt Baker: ‘Mum and Dad now more famous than me!’

While it is often celebrities who overshadow their children, it has been the reverse for the former Blue Peter and One Show presenter since his parents landed their second TV series.

The County Durham-born star, who is appearing alongside Janice and Mike in Matt Baker: Travels With Mum And Dad, said: “It’s hilarious because it’s like I’m a child now.

“Lots of people keep coming up to me and ask, ‘Where’s your mum and dad?’ It’s as if I can’t go out without them. It’s really funny.”

The More 4 show follows Matt, 45, Janice, 68, and Mick, 79, on some memorable, easy-to-reach excursions around their beloved North-East as they relive old memories and make new ones. “They are enjoying it and they’vehad this renewed sense of adventure,” revealed the former Countryfile star.

“The fact all the places we go to are accessible and they’re not too far away from home means there’s not that jeopardy of leaving the house. We can have a lovely time and we take the caravan with us, which is Dad’s man cave.”

Matt’s family-based shows, such as Our Farm In The Dales, came about after he set up his own company after leaving The One Show in 2020.

“When I left, I wanted to make TV that I knew struck a chord with people, and this does,” said Matt. “Families seem to latch on to it, which makes everyone think about the precious time we can spend with our parents.

“The reactions they’ve had when people come up and talk to them have been invaluable.

“It has inspired people of my generation to create memories.”
