Michel Roux Jr shares update on Dave Myers’ health ahead of Hairy Bikers reunion

Michel Roux Jr shared that he’s looking forward to sharing “heartwarming” hugs with Dave Myers and his Hairy Bikers co-star Si King, in an exclusive new interview with Express.co.uk.

Talking of the pair’s appearance with him at the upcoming BBC Good Food Winter Show in Birmingham next week, where he’ll be doing no fewer than four live cooking demonstrations, he expressed his happiness at the prospect of catching up.

“I’ve met the Hairy Bikers on several occasions and it’s always wonderful to catch up with them and see him on the road to recovery,” Michel enthused.

“We’ll definitely be having a drink at the Good Food Show if I bump into them, that’s for sure, and giving them a big hug.

“Us chefs, we always meet up on these big occasions and it’s always wonderful and heartwarming to catch up with old friends.”

Despite undergoing more than 30 gruelling rounds of chemotherapy for a type of cancer that he’s yet to disclose, Dave is slowly returning to the showbiz scene and showcasing a new cookbook with Si, titled Ulitmate Comfort Food.

Once famous for his voracious appetite, combined with his love of motorbiking adventures around the world, Dave totally lost his appetite and even his ability to walk due to the disease.

After intensive physiotherapy, Dave is now back on his bike – and Michel is looking forward to congratulating his pal on his progress next week.

Besides that, the Michelin-starred chef will also be demonstrating himself whipping up a dish crafted from “sustainable British mussels”, followed by an “indulgent” dessert of “poached pears with an almond and bitter chocolate sauce”.

Meanwhile, Michel also discussed his friendship with other famous chefs during the interview, joking about Gordon Ramsay’s “fiery” temper.

He once directed him at his restaurant Le Gavroche when Gordon was much younger, and he experienced the hotheadedness, for which he is now renowned, first-hand.

However, he explained that his colourful persona can sometimes be exaggerated for dramatic effect and television ratings.

“I think on television he’s been portrayed as very hot-tempered and driven and passionate – but let’s not forget television is entertainment and television picks out the choicest moments,” he declared.

“What you see on television isn’t exactly what Gordon is in real life. He is he is the most adorable and kind-hearted person out there,” he continued.

“He is however driven and passionate about what he does… He was very fiery as a youngster, but there’s no denying of his natural talent.”

Former Masterchef: The Professionals and Saturday Kitchen star Michel Roux Jr will be appearing at BBC GOOD FOOD SHOW WINTER at NEC Birmingham. 23-26 November.
