Erik ten Hag claims he has NEVER started his best XI since arriving at Man Utd last season | The Sun

ERIK TEN HAG has claimed he has never been able to pick his best line-up since joining Manchester United.

The Red Devils have been hit with an injury crisis with key players like Mason Mount and Raphael Varane out of action.

That pair are back in training and could return to the pitch against Burnley at the weekend, but Ten Hag is still short of numbers, particularly in defence.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka became the latest casualty at the weekend to join Luke Shaw and Sofyan Amrabat on the treatment table, while summer signing Rasmus Hojlund also spent time on the sidelines.

But Ten Hag claimed the injury issues are just the latest in a long line of setbacks he has faced.

The United boss said: “One thing is for sure: from the start of last season I don't think I ever started with, in my opinion, the best starting XI.

“There were always injuries.

“We always got results apart from the period that we are in now. You have to deal with it.”

Ten Hag has also had to deal with multiple off-field issues since taking charge, including the Cristiano Ronaldo fallout last season.

Since then he has stripped Harry Maguire of the United captaincy and banished Jadon Sancho from training after he hit out at the Dutchman, claiming he has been scapegoated for bad results.
