Inside Coronation Street actor Paddy Bever's life off screen – from surprising real age to co-star best friend | The Sun

CORRIE star Paddy Bever is best known for playing the troublesome Max Turner – but the actor has an interesting life of his own.

Regular ITV viewers will be familiar with all the difficult situations the Coronation Street hooligan has gotten into on the show, from being sent to jail for his involvement in the stabbing of Alya Nazir to his more recent love triangle.

However, fans of the soap may be surprised to find out Paddy is nothing like his on screen character.

The actor took over the character of Max from Harry McDermott in 2021, while straight out of acting school.

Paddy previously told Manchester Evening News that he was still taking his A-levels when he auditioned for the huge role, and was shocked to actually land the job.

He said: "I had an A-level the next day so I made the decision not to revise for the A-level and focus on the tape.

"I then didn’t hear anything for a month so I presumed I hadn’t got it and then I got called for a screen test which was so exciting. I was so nervous but when I got there it just struck me that everyone was so lovely. I did my screen test with Jack Shepherd [David] then a week later I found out I’d got the role which was amazing.

"I also somehow got an A in the A-level I didn’t revise for so it all worked out ok in the end!"

The hardworking young lad also went on to snag the Rising Star gong at the NTA Awards in 2022 after just one year of playing Max.

He admitted to the Sun Online that he hadn't expected the big win, because he often felt like he didn't deserve such a big role in the soap.

He added: ""I just keep thinking about it. Like, every time when I wake up in the morning, I'll wake up and I'll be thinking 'that didn't really happen', and then I think, 'oh it did'.

"And that makes me feel very happy, I'm pretty overjoyed. Recently, before I won this award I had a bit of imposter syndrome.

"I was getting all these lovely storylines and I thought, 'what if I don't deserve this?' And I think that's why it was such an emotional moment."

Besides not sharing the same rabble-rousing personality traits, Paddy and Max have one other key difference.

Even though he is playing the part of a teenager for Coronation Street, Paddy actually recently turned 20 in real life.

He posted a series of snaps on Instagram celebrating the occasion with his brother and friends – and even got some birthday cuddles from his pooch.

Co-star Cait Fitton, who played Max's previous girlfriend Lauren on the show, left the sweet comment: "Hope you had the best birthday angel – forever love."
