Jets QB Aaron Rodgers Reportedly Out For Season With Torn Achilles

The season is over for New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Just four snaps into the Jets’ dramatic 22-16 overtime victory Monday night against the Buffalo Bills, Rodgers suffered a torn Achilles in his left tendon and reportedly will miss the remainder of the season.

An MRI confirmed the tear, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport on X/fka Twitter, citing sources.

What was hoped to be a resurgent season for the beleaguered Jets came to a crushing end for Rodgers, the four-time NFL MVP who was their prized offseason signing.

Rodgers was sacked by Bills linebacker Leonard Floyd, with Rodgers’ left foot catching in the turf as he went down. After he was carted off the field, the onetime Super Bowl MVP was seen on camera limping into the locker room with a boot on his left foot and lower leg.

A grim coach Robert Saleh told the media after the game that they suspected a significant Achilles injury. “(We’re) concerned with his Achilles. MRI’s probably going to confirm what we think is already going to happen with his Achilles, so prayers tonight. But, it’s not good,” Saleh said.

Backup quarterback Zach Wilson took over for the injured Rodgers and led the Jets to the overtime win in the team’s season opener.

Rodgers spent the first 18 seasons of his NFL career with the Green Bay Packers before being traded in the offseason. He led the Packers to a 31-25 victory in Super Bowl XLV in 2011.

He won league MVP awards in 2011, 2014, 2020 and 2021.
