Amanda Holden shares awkward moment that ‘couldn’t have been less of a turn on’

Amanda Holden teases Sky History’s Sex: A Bonkers History

Amanda Holden was challenged to test the theory that ancient women were aroused by watching gladiators – but she’s now dropped the bombshell that, contrary to expectations, violence leaves her completely cold.

“To test [the theory], they hooked me up to a heart rate monitor and I watched guys boxing, which couldn’t have been less of a turn on for me!” the 52-year-old exclaimed.

“I do not find boxing a sexy sport. It is brutal and obviously, people are getting smashed in the face, so none of that was for me!”

She made her comments in a new interview ahead of the debut episode of Sex: A Bonkers History, in which she investigates how attitudes to fun under the covers have changed over the years.

Amanda, who described the series as “like Horrible Histories for adults”, said she was also sure to steer clear of anything potentially disgusting, like “working with pig semen”.

She handed that task over to her co-star, best-selling author and historian Dan Jones.

The star recently almost had a run-in with a fighter herself, after ex-kickboxer Andrew Tate told her to cover up.

After the 36-year-old influencer had raged that she was “a wife and mother” and “way past a teenager” and that there was “no need” for one of her sexy bikini snaps, she’d been tempted to bite back.

“Honestly, I had another shot of me in a bikini with just a close-up of my bum and I was tempted to post it with the caption: ‘Kiss my 52-year-old a**e,'” she’d told The Telegraph, “but you just know something like that’s going to go on and on – and in the end, why give him the oxygen?”

Meanwhile, Amanda thinks she’d find watching footballers on the pitch far more tempting than a gladitatorial boxer.

“[With gladiators], you’re looking at heroes of the time fighting for their lives, oiled up in a ring and you’re vying for them, aren’t you? I think you can compare that more to footballers,” she reasoned.

“Fit footballers in an arena situation, and watching them play a sport rather than tearing themselves apart. They probably should have wired me up at a football match,” she teased.

She added that while watching boxing, there had been absolutely no “spike” in her heart rate.

There’s one more pastime that Amanda cheekily suggested could also have got her in the mood – some very expensive clothes.

“If they’d have taken me to a designer clothes shop, my heart rate would go up,” she joked.

“If you want to turn me on, it’s fashion and stuff like that, that’ll do it!”

Amanda has suggested she isn’t averse to fancy dress, explaining that for her, the sexiest period in history was the “Regency era”, when there would have been layers of whalebone corsetry to undo.

Sex: A Bonkers History premieres Monday 18th September on Sky History.
