Coleen Rooney can be seen in tears in the new trailer for her Disney+ documentary, Coleen Rooney: The Real Wagatha Story, which will be released on 18 October.
The mum-of-four, 37, opens up for the very first time about her famous libel case against Rebekah Vardy, dubbed Wagatha Christie, in the three-part series. The Real Wagatha Story will detail how Coleen turned amateur online sleuth to find an explanation for why private stories about her and her family continued to appear in the media.
It will look at the circumstances around her viral social media post in October 2019, in which she said she had carried out a months-long “sting operation” and accused Rebekah, 41, the wife of footballer Jamie Vardy, of leaking “false stories” about her private life to the press.
Rebekah and Coleen then faced each other in court last summer in a 10-day trial which gripped the nation. Mum-of-five Rebekah lost the libel battle over the post, after a High Court judge found it was “substantially true”.
In her new Disney+ documentary, the WAG, who is married to former England footballer Wayne Rooney, will also open up on how her life and marriage has played out in public for the last 20 years.
The series includes exclusive interviews with Coleen and her family, as well as her legal team who were involved in the court case. Coleen Rooney: The Real Wagatha Story will be available to stream on Disney+ from 18 October 2023.
The Disney+ documentary is made by Dorothy Street Pictures and Lorton Entertainment and is directed and produced by Lucy Bowden.
Coleen had refrained from publicly speaking out about the case until earlier this year, when she graced the cover of British Vogue and opened up about the Wagatha trial for the very first time.
She also spoke to The Times, revealing that it is now her "turn to speak" about the trial, which was widely covered in the media.
Coleen said: "Everyone was saying so many things about the case at the time, including the other side. But I didn't, because I'm not that type of person. But now it's my turn to speak."
Recalling the trial itself, Coleen opened up about the nerves she had felt going into court everyday, as she explained: "I'd never been in a courtroom before and I was really nervous. I never spoke on the way to London and every morning in the hotel I didn't speak."
Coleen was supported by her husband of 15 years, former footballer Wayne every day of the trial, whom she has revealed told her: "You just tell the truth, because no one can wrong with the truth."
