DO you dream about having countless pretty plants covering your garden when the sun is shining?

Well, you can make that a reality if you start getting prepared – but you need to take action now before it gets too cold. 

A gardening pro has shared how he’s come up with something he’s dubbed the “bulb lasagna” to get you started.

And the green-fingered expert called Tom Strowlger said it’s easy to follow and even easier to get great results.

He explained that he was starting his “spring bulb planting journey” from September and that it would take him into “autumn and early wintertime.” 

And it’s all thanks to his ingenious “bulb lasagna” that makes planting simple and effective.

In a video posted to the TikTok account @garden_with_tom, he captured one half of a plant pot filled with compost ready for the bulbs to be added.

He then explained: “I’ve created this half pot to show you what a bulb lasagna looks like.”

Tom then took different bulbs for different plants and added them one by one – showing the order in which they should be placed into the soil.

He also stressed the importance of following the planting order, as it’s all to do with when they bloom.

Tom continued: “It’s the layering of bulbs – starting here with tulips at the base because they flower between May and June.”

He then reached for the slightly smaller daffodil bulb, as he went to say: “Then we’ve got the daffodil.

“They flower between March and April. And then we’ve got the crocus at the top.”

Revealing why it got its name, he said: “You can see these layers will create flowers over a period of several months and look splendid next springtime.

And it seems that his 52k followers, all who fancy themselves as budding gardeners, were pleased with his expert tips.

One of his social media fans wrote: “I did this in my yard with bulbs during Covid – it’s amazing.”

A second person wrote: “Great demo! Don’t forget the hyacinths and pansies on top.” 

While a third added: “I didn’t know this was a thing!”
