Coronation Street cancelled in schedule shake-up

If you’re looking forward to starting the weekend with the usual Friday night trip to Coronation Street, we’ve got some bad news for you – tonight’s episode will not be airing as usual.

The soap has served up some pretty dramatic storylines in recent weeks, with Ryan (Ryan Prescott) getting in too deep with the online videos, Aadi (Adam Hussein)’s relationship with Courtney (Stephanie Davis) no longer a secret and Stephen Reid (Todd Boyce)’s murderous deeds starting to catch up with him.

We can’t wait to see what happens next – but we’ll just have to.

Why is Coronation Street not on tonight – and when will the next episode air?

Why is Coronation Street not on tonight?

The answer’s quite simple – Coronation Street is not on tonight as it’s been moved to make way for football.

ITV will instead be screening live coverage of the UEFA Women’s Nations League match between England and Scotland, from the Stadium of Light in Sunderland.

Coverage begins at 7.30pm on ITV1, with the match due to kick off at 7.45pm – and it runs through until 10pm, ahead of the series finale of My Mum Your Dad.

The match is the first for the Lionesses since their defeat against Spain at the Women’s World Cup final in Sydney in August.

The results from the Nations League will help determine which European teams will compete at the 2024 Olympics in Paris – while the results of the group stage matches will also help determine the groups at the 2025 Euros.

When is Coronation Street back?

Coronation Street will return to screens on Monday night – but expect further disruption in the schedules next week, with the Rugby World Cup clash between New Zealand and Italy due to air next Friday evening at 7.30pm.

Instead, you can look forward to two hour-long episodes of the soap on Monday and Wednesday at 8pm.

Expect a big week as Paul Foreman (Peter Ash) struggles to hold it together at his friend Shelley’s funeral, while Dev Alahan (Jimmi Harkishin) puts his relationship with son Aadi in jeopardy over a surprise proposal to Courtney.

And could it be the end for the iconic Rovers Return…? You’ll have to tune in to find out what happens.

Coronation Street continues on Monday night on ITV at 8pm.
