CAIN Dingle and Caleb Milligan shocked viewers when it was revealed they were holding someone hostage.
Emmerdale fans were even more thrown when it was revealed they were holding Aaron Dingle captive. But why did he leave the village?
Who is Aaron Dingle in Emmerdale?
Aaron Dingle has been a fan favourite since his debut in the ITV soap on December 24, 2003.
As regular viewers of the Yorkshire-based drama will remember, Aaron is the son of Chas Dingle and Gordon Livesy as well as the half-brother of Liv Flaherty and Eve Dingle.
He has been portrayed by I'm A Celebrity star Danny Miller since 2008 but, during his first years in the eponymous village, he was played by Manchester actor Danny Webb.
Aaron has been involved in plenty of dramatic storylines in his two decades in Emmerdale, one of which included coming to terms with his homosexuality after making a pass at his best friend, Adam Barton.

He was also thrown in mental turmoil himself as he tried to take his own life before helping his then-boyfriend Jackson Walsh commit suicide following a devastating train accident which left him quadriplegic.
Aaron also embarked on an affair with Robert Sugden, which led to him becoming involved in Katie Sugden's death.
In a heartbreaking child abuse storyline, he revealed that he had been raped by his father as a child as he reunited with his estranged half-sister Liv.
After attacking Kasim Sabet, Aaron was also sentenced to a year of imprisonment and suffered from bullying, panic attacks and drug abuse while behind bars.

Why did Aaron Dingle leave Emmerdale?
The beloved hunk left Emmerdale on several occasions throughout his twenty-years-long stint.
After Jackson's death, Aaron left the village to have a break from all the drama, an experience he reiterated after his former husband Robert Sugden was sent to prison.
Aaron departed from Emmerdale in 2020 after spiralling out of control due to Robert's situation.
Deciding he needed to get his act together, he signed divorce papers and stayed with Debbie in Scotland.
He then returned and struck up a relationship with Ben Tucker before deciding to leave once again in November, 2021, thus allowing actor Danny to take part and win I'm A Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here!
However, Aaron soon returned to the village in late 2022, after starting a new life in Italy.
During his latest comeback to the Dales, he found out his mother Chas had embarked on an affair with Al Chapman.
Aaron tried to convince his mother to do the right thing and stop the illicit romance but she failed to listen to him.
Things were made even worse when Aaron's sister Liv was crushed to death by a caravan during last year's Super Storm Week.
This was enough for Aaron to leave the Dales once again, despite initially making plans to stick around, and he disowned his mother Chas in the process, unable to accept her infidelity.

What happened to Aaron Dingle in Emmerdale?
Moira Dingle (played by Natalie J. Robb) recently made a shocking discovery after she realised her husband Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) was keeping yet another secret from her.
The farmer ventured in a nearby barn, despite Cain trying to stop her and make her believe he was planning to give his son Nate Robinson a farm.
Eventually, Moira discovered Cain was keeping an unknown man hostage, tied to a chair and with a hood on his head – a man who turned out to be Aaron.
It was then revealed that Aaron's fresh start in Italy turned into a nightmare when he had a run-in with the mafia, stealing £30,000 from them.
Cain and Caleb Milligan (Will Ash) were left with no other choice but to rescue him from a grisly fate.
Speaking about his return, Danny Miller mentioned he was back on a permanent basis: "I am excited to finally be able to talk about my return to Emmerdale playing Aaron."
"Everyone wanted to keep it a secret and I loved this idea, so I was given two code names on the scripts – Albert Jones which I am guessing they got from my wife’s maiden name and son, and then Wylie Smith is the other alias as he starts at Wylie Farm."
