Crane COLLAPSES and smashes into building at Leith construction site as worker rushed to hospital | The Sun

A WORKER has been rushed to hospital after a crane collapsed and smashed into a building at an Edinburgh construction site.

The equipment plunged onto the roof of an under-construction building on Stead’s Place in Leith.

Eyewitnesses reported hearing a loud crack before the crane arm came crashing down.

Scores of emergency crews were scrambled to the scene, and one person had to be raced to the New Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

Photos show the mangled wreckage of the equipment sitting on top of the roof.  And scaffolding at the bottom of the building has been smashed by falling debris.

One eyewitness who witnessed the collapse called emergency services as soon as it happened.

He told The Scottish Sun: “I was on Leith Walk when I heard this crack. I looked up and saw the entire arm of the crane come crashing down on the building.

“The crane came down and it looks like it caused part of the roof to cave in.

“There must have been at least 100 workers in there.

“There’s all sorts of emergency services here, all of Leith Walk has been closed down.
